Judges Lionel Richie, Katy Perry and Luke Bryan are back for season 20 of ‘American Idol’ and this years got some really promising talents. This season also marks the fifth season for all three judges as they joined when ABC revived the series and tweaked a few things on the show.
This season, a Platinum Ticket is a new prize that can be used only one per audition city, allowing the recipient a free pass to the first round of Hollywood Week.
During the premiere, we heard heartwarming stories and powerful voices that brought the judges to tears.
One contestant that caught Canadian viewers attention was 18 year old university student, Nicolina Bozzo from Toronto who got a standing ovation from all three judges.

Another audition that caught the judge off guard was Grace Franklin, 15 year old from Detroit who is also none other, Aretha Franklin’s granddaughter. Her performance was no surprise outstanding but to Richie it wasn’t the right time for her and told her to come back.
