The life of James Brown will play out in a four-part docuseries on A&E, which is set to be produced by Mick Jagger and Questlove and Black Thought of The Roots.
‘James Brown: Say It Loud’ will premiere in 2023 and feature exclusive interviews, as well as never before seen footage of the “Godfather of Soul”. Brown is known as one of the most influential vocalists of the 20th century – recognized for his ability to blend multiple vocal styles together and “scream” on key. His story has been recounted many times before but this time it will told by a group of famed musicians who themselves accredit Brown as one of their biggest inspirations.
“I used to aspire to be like James Brown in his moves, and so I copied a lot of James Brown’s moves in the early days,” Jagger told Rolling Stone in 1995.
Mick Jagger and The Rolling Stones performed LIVE together in 1964 on the T.A.M.I. Show. The clip seen below works to showcase just how the ‘Moves Like Jagger’ really came to be…
The 2023 documentary debut is fitting, as the year would have marked James Brown’s 90th year of life. “The life of James Brown is significant not only to understand his immense musical impact, which inspires us and other artists to this day, but also for the deep and lasting impression he has had on American culture,” Questlove and Black Thought said in a statement.
